Newton - Mrs. Jean L. (DeNorscia) Fontecchio, of Newton, died Monday, July 16, 2012 at home. She was 78.
Jean was born on February 16, 1934 in Waltham, a daughter of the late Massimo and Mary (Fabrizio) DeNorscia. Raised in Waltham she graduated from Waltham High School. After marriage to Frank J. Fontecchio they lived in Newton where they raised and educated their children.
She worked as a secretary for over 40 years at Newton City Hall in the Engineering Office before retiring in 2002.
Jean was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Newton Centre where she sang in its choir for many years. She was also a member of the Hovey Players in Waltham and enjoyed reading.
In addition to her husband, Frank J. Fontecchio who died October 10, 1975, she is predeceased by her siblings, Ralph DeNorscia, Beatrice Lembo and Palma Philips.
Jean leaves her children, Frank J. Fontecchio, Roger "Jack" Fontecchio, Valerie J. Fontecchio, all of Newton and Eric S. Fontecchio and his wife, Donna, of Lincoln, Rhode Island; her brothers, Anthony DeNorscia of Framingham and Robert Chiarelli of Thousand Oaks, California; her grandchildren, Frank Jr., Erin, Roger, Caitlin, Alexander, Christopher, Ashley and Nicole; also survived by nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Jean's life by gathering for her calling hours on Wednesday, July 18th from 2-4 & 7-9pm in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street, (Rte. 20), Waltham and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 1321 Centre Street, Newton, where her Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Newton Cemetery.
