Mrs. Jean R. (Olivo) Glynn, of Waltham, died at home on Sunday, August 25, 2024. She was 99.
Jean was born in Waltham on October 4, 1924, a daughter of the late Dominic and Margaret (Alongi) Olivo, and was a graduate of Saint Mary’s High School in Waltham.
A trailblazer for her time she furthered her education at Regis College in Weston before earning a Master’s degree in social work at Fordham University in New York City. Jean was a lifelong learner.
In addition to raising her family with her late husband, Ernie, she worked for more than thirty years as a licensed clinical social worker for the Waltham Public Schools where she made many lifelong friendships among the students, teachers and administrators.
She lived in Waltham all of her life before retiring to Chatham with Ernie.
The wife of the late Ernest D. Glynn, she leaves her childen, Doreen Glynn Kenny (Bernard ‘Roy’), of Waltham, Ernest D. Glynn, Jr. of Acton and Mary Patricia Glynn (Moe Silberzweig) of Acton; her sister, Margaret Cormier of Waltham; four grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Jean was also the sister of the late Dominic ‘Mickey”, Nicholas, Sebastian “Bill”, Robert and Theresa Olivo, Antoinette Marella, Ida Quinlan, Mary Plant and Rose Nickerson.
Family and friends will honor and remember Jean’s life by gathering for an evening wake on Thursday, August 29th from 5 to 7 p.m. in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday morning in Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Waltham.
