Waltham - Jean L. (Gallagher) Harris died Wednesday, May 15, 2024 . She was 86.
Jean was born on March 7, 1938 in Newton a daughter of the late Matthew and Mary (Lansed) Gallagher. She lived in Stoughton and later moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1978 after the death of her husband where she lived over 15 years. Jean returned to her native New England making home in her much-loved Waltham. Throughout her life she worked in various positions in Massachusetts as well as Arizona.
Jean loved the company of family and friends and treasured her life-long (50+years) friendships with Terry Ormond of Waltham and Gwen Rand of Framingham. For over 22 years she enjoyed meeting with Elaine, Gwen and Gail for their tea parties.
She faithfully followed the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots and always told her daughter Sharon, that it better never appear in her obituary how much she loved playing bingo! She will be lovingly remembered for her down to earth demeanor and wonderful sense of humor.
In addition to her husband, Kenneth (†1978) she was predeceased by her grandson, Benjamin Gallagher and siblings, Robert and James Gallagher and Ruth Russell (late John).
She leaves her children, Sharon L. Biddy (Ronald) of Waltham, Michael L. Gallagher and Keith Gallagher, both of Phoenix, Arizona and Kenneth Gallagher of Oregon; her grandchildren, Nicole and Bryce Gallagher, Ryan Biddy, Matthew Biddy (Danielle Rounseville) and Christopher Biddy (Kaylee), Preston Gallagher, Christina Opray (Luke); and several great grandchildren; Her brothers, Russell Gallagher (Bonnie) of Tewksbury and William Gallagher of Uxbridge; nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Jean's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, May 20th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again Tuesday where her funeral service will be held at 12 noon. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
