Waltham – Mrs. Joan D. (Bond) Burke, of Waltham and Naples, Florida died Monday, May 18, 2015 at her home. She was 79.
Joan was born in Waltham on April 13, 1936, a daughter of the late Charles and Sophie (Ramsay) Bond, and had been a lifelong resident. She was a 1954 graduate of Waltham High School. On May 26, 1957 she married her longtime beau, Waltham native Philip E. Burke, III, in Beth Eden Baptist Church and the couple made Waltham their lifelong home. They also spent many happy winters at their home in Naples, Florida.
Until her retirement Joan worked as a secretary for Bird Precision in Waltham. Before that she held the same position at P.E. Burke Moving and Storage and for Judge Paul Connolly of Waltham.
She was a terrific homemaker and a talented crafter. Joan kept her home meticulous and took great pride in her garden. She was skilled at counted cross-stitching, quilting and sewing and enjoyed time spent playing hymns and songs on the organ at home.
In addition to her husband of fifty-eight years, Phil, she leaves her children, Philip E. Burke and his wife, Michelle, of Sudbury, Cathy J. Burke of Warwick, Rhode Island and Jeffrey C. Burke and his wife, Carol, of Farmington Hills, Michigan; her grandchildren, Justin Burke, Tyler Burke, Kristen Spartichino, Dominic Spartichino, Carly Burke, Heidi Burke, Kristen Burke and Holly Burke; her brother, Charles Bond and his wife, Myrna, of Peachtree City, Georgia and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Joan's life by gathering for calling hours on Friday, May 22nd, from 4 to 7 p.m. in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham where her funeral service will be held at 7 p.m.
