Waltham – Mrs. Joan P. Denton, of Waltham, died unexpectedly at home on Monday, December 5, 2016. She was 83.
Born on January 17, 1933 in Garforth, England she was a daughter of the late Joseph Norman Riley and Emily (Stephenson) Riley. Raised and educated in England she immigrated to the United States in the early 1950's settling in Belmont. Her husband, Frank Denton died March 23, 2005.
Joan worked for over 20 years as sales manager at the Girl Scouts - Patriots Trail Council in Boston before retiring in 1998.
An avid gardener she was also a loyal fan of the Boston Celtics. Joan was also involved with the Waltham Senior Center.
In addition to her husband, Frank, she is predeceased by her brother Ronald Riley.
She leaves her daughters, Victoria J. Ladd and her husband, Lawrence, of Waltham, Alexandra K. Forster and her husband, John, of Natick and Charlotte F. King and her husband, Dave, of Pepperell; her grandchildren, Kristina Ladd, Francis, Emily and Mia Phillips, Ella and Adam Forster; her sister, Constance Warley and her husband, Clive, of York, England, her former son-in-law, David Phillips and is also survived by several nieces & nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Joan's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, December 9th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday morning where her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will be private.
