Powers (Stephen) of Marlborough; siblings Jean Ford (Jerry Gordon) of Brookline, Thomas Ford (Mary Mayotte) of Jamaica Plain; sister-in-law of Jean Brown (John) of Dedham, Richard Horigan (Jean) of Lexington, Helen Horigan (late Judith Lennett) of Roslindale, the late Edward Horigan (MaryLou) of Virginia Beach, VA and the late James Horigan (Lynn Horigan) of Concord, NH.

Joan leaves many loving nieces and nephews.
Upon graduation from Brighton High School in 1959, Joan worked as a switchboard operator at the New England Telephone Company. It was there she met the love of her life, George. George, who died May 9, 2022 and Joan celebrate their 59th wedding anniversary Wednesday, June 1st together in heaven.
After the birth of her first child, Joan gladly changed careers to become a full-time mom, while serving the community in various part-time roles within Catholic Charities and her children's schools. She volunteered as their Girl Scout Troop leader and CCD teacher. She was happiest being the central figure in the lives of her children, as they grew into strong, intelligent, independent women.
She was truly a lady and a master of "old school" conversational etiquette. Joan was equally adept talking to the oldest or the youngest person in the room. She was empathetic and gracious, always leaving a bit of sage advice behind wherever she went.
Family and friends will honor and remember Joan's life by gathering to visit in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, on Monday, June 6th at 10 a.m. followed by her funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 2 p.m.
