Watertown – Mrs. Joan (Wright) O'Grady, of Watertown, died Monday, January 8, 2018 at her home. She was 86.
Joan was born and raised in Waltham and was a 1949 graduate of Waltham High School. There she made many lifelong friends and was a faithful attendee of class reunions. In 1951 she married Watertown native William P. O'Grady and the pair made Watertown their lifelong home. Joan and Bill enjoyed fifty-two happy years together until his death in October, 2003.
Until her retirement Joan worked at the A&P Stores in Watertown and in Belmont. She was a talented knitter and solving crossword puzzles was a favorite pastime.
Faith, family and friends were Joan's daily companions and more than anything she loved being beloved 'Mimi' to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their legion of friends.
She leaves her children, Rev. Robert M. O'Grady of Arlington, Maureen J. Amedio and her husband, Anthony, of Watertown and Jean M. McDonald and her husband, Gerry, of Watertown; her grandchildren, Kaitlyn DeStefano and her husband, David, Brianne Greeley and her husband, Darren, Brendan, Kerilyn and Patrick Amedio, Kelly Riordan and her husband, Bryan, Sandy, Ryan and Mark McDonald; her great-grandchildren, Colin, Reagan and Molly DeStefano, Aubrey Greeley and Libby and Lyla Riordan and many nieces and nephews including Patricia Dragone and her husband, Robert.
Family and friends will honor and remember Joan's life by gathering for calling hours in the Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main St. (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday January 11th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Patrick's Church, 212 Main Street, Watertown where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Saint Patrick's Cemetery, Watertown.
