Watertown – Joanne L. (DePamphilis) Papia, of Watertown, died Monday, July 4, 2016 at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. She was 61.
Joanne was born in Cambridge, a daughter of the late Olivia (Amoroso) DePamphilis and John L. DePamphilis, and was raised in Watertown. She was a 1973 graduate of Rosary Academy in Watertown.
She lived for a number of years in Belmont before moving back to Watertown eleven years ago. Joanne worked as the director of operations for area medical laboratories.
During the summer she could be found at Craigville Beach, not far from her Osterville summer home. It was there that Joanne found her greatest joy being in the company of her family, especially her grandchildren. Around the house she was a terrific cook and when not at the beach she loved to shop.
Joanne leaves her daughter, Danielle F. Virgilio and her husband, John, of Needham; her grandchildren, Sofia and Giovanni Virgilio; her brothers and sisters, John L. DePamphilis, Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of Lynnfield, Olivia J. Strickland, Stephen A. DePamphilis, both of Watertown, Maria A. Wilson of North Reading and Sean M. DePamphilis of Belmont and her nieces and nephews, Nicole Philips and her husband, Shaun, Matthew DePamphilis and his wife, MaryKate, Brian DePamphilis and his wife, Jill, Jessica, Justin and James DePamphilis.
Family and friends will honor and remember Joanne's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, July 10th from 3 to 7 p.m. and again at 8 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Luke's Church, 132 Lexington Street, Belmont where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Saint Patrick's Cemetery, Watertown.
