Joe C. Huang

Shrewsbury - Joe C. Huang, of Shrewsbury, died at home on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, his Lunar birthday. He was 91.

Born on June 27, 1929 in Ningbo, China he was a son of the late Bing Lin Huang and Zhi Xiang Chou. Educated in China he graduated from the prestigious Taiwan University. Upon immigrating to the United States he earned multiple degrees, including two Master's degrees and his PhD in English and Journalism from Southern Illinois University. He married Helena Ma on September 14, 1963 in Carbondale, Illinois.

An opportunity to become professor at The College of the Holy Cross brought them to Worcester County where they settled in Westborough in 1972 and later moved to Shrewsbury in April of 1994. 


As an accomplished writer he published a book, 'Heros and Villains in Communist China' which was a contemporary Chinese novel as a reflection of life.


Joe and his family owned and operated the former Golden Horse Chinese Restaurant in White City Plaza from 1977 - 1992 before retiring.

In addition his wife of 62 years, Helena he leaves their son, Kenneth A. Huang, both of Shrewsbury and his brother, Huang Wen Ping and his half-brother, Chang Liang Huang, both of California; nieces & nephews in China and the United States.


Funeral services and burial in Mountain View Cemetery will be private.
