Kennebunk, Maine – Mr.Joel H. Beck, 92, died on Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at the Atria Senior Living Group in Kennebunk, Maine following a brief illness.

Joel was born in Waltham on July 15, 1915, a son of George and Emma (Varney) Beck. He graduated from Waltham High School and lived most of his life in Waltham until he moved to Kennebunk in 2003.

He was predeceased by his wife, Edna May (Smith) Beck; his parents, and his brothers, Harold, George and Edwin (Ted) Beck.

He is survived by his loving children, Joel H. Beck and his wife, Donna DeSaulnier, of Arundel, Maine, Peter H. Beck and his wife, Elaine, of Acton, Maine, Harriet A. Rist and her husband, Peter, of Kennebunk, Maine and Carl F. Beck and his wife, Judith, of Framingham. He also leaves his grandchildren, Julie Ann (Beck) Mattoon, and her husband, Chris, of Somerville, and Matthew Beck and his wife, Shannon, of Worcester.

Joel was employed in the photo finishing industry and worked for Cedric G. Chase Photo Labs in Waltham, Mastercolor of New England in Boston and Alves Photo Labs in Braintree. After his retirement in 1977 he worked part time at Risebergs Clothing Store on Moody Street, Waltham, and as the custodian at Immanuel United Methodist Church for many years, and then at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Waltham. He continued his interest in photography as a member and President of the Waltham Camera Club.

Joel liked the simple life, loved to take trips with his wife and family, and enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping-out with his brothers and his sons. He was a Cub Master for the Plympton School Cub Scout Pack, and managed the Detroit Tigers Little League team for some years. Joel loved dogs and enjoyed spending time with his Lhasa Apso, Sandy, and his granddaughter’s dog, Kris.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral at 9:30 a.m. Monday from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Mary’s Church, 133 School Street, Waltham at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.

Visiting hours are Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m.
