John R. "Jack" Bennett

Wells, Maine – Mr. John R. "Jack" Bennett of Wells, formerly of Waltham, died Monday, June 30, 2014 in the York Hospital in York, Maine. He was 83.

Jack was born in Pembroke, Maine, on July 31, 1930, a son of the late Stephen and Eileen (Smith) Bennett, and was a graduate of Pembroke High School. He was a Waltham resident for fifty years before moving back to Maine in 1994.

Until his retirement he worked as a collator/press operator for the Recording and Statistical Company in Dorchester. Prior to that Jack was employed by the Atlantic Business Forms Company and before that at Court Square Press. Most recently he worked at the Outdoor Comfort Center in Oxford Maine.

Jack was a member of the Maine National Guard and the Knights of Columbus in Watertown. He found much enjoyment in watching horse racing.

Jack is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Claire L. (Lambert) Bennett; his children, Michael S. Bennett and his wife, Anne, of Waltham, David J. Bennett and his wife, Kathleen, of Mineola Florida, Susan L. Page and her husband, Thomas, of Canton and Catherine A. O'Brien and her husband, John, of Waltham; his aunt, Inez Mills of Eastport, Maine; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was also the father of the late Eileen M. Bennett and the brother of the late Charles H. Bennett.

Family and friends will honor and remember Jack's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, July 2nd from 5 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
