Wayland - Mr. John A. Bergantino, of Wayland, formerly of Waltham, died Sunday August 2, 2009 in his home. He was 76. John was born in Waltham on May 18, 1933, a son of the late Antonio and Laura (Spardella) Bergantino and lived many years in Waltham before moving to Wayland in April 1978. He was a graduate of Waltham High School and served in the United States Army Signal Corps. John worked as a construction supervisor for many area companies throughout the New England area before retiring in 1998. John was an avid golfer and a beloved Papa to his grandchildren. He was beloved family man who cherished his time spent with everyone. He leaves his wife, Evelyn P. (O'Brien) Bergantino; his son, John A. Bergantino and his wife, Linda, of Framingham; his siblings, Carmen Bergantino and his wife, Margo, of Waltham, Joseph Bergantino of Boston, Anthony Bergantino and his wife, Marguerite, of Essex, Christine Tullo and her husband, Michael, of Waltham, Barbara Zastria and her husband, Lawrence, of Watertown and Lorraine Sandstrom and her husband, Donald, of Stow. Brother-in-law of Elaine Tully and her husband, John, of Micco, FL; Grandfather of Tara Arena and her husband, Michael, Amy Bergantino and her fiance, Daryl Coppola, all of Framingham and Melissa Anderson and her husband, Shanton, of Millbury. Great- grandfather of Tyler, Jack, Grace, Faith, and Jon. Also survived by many nieces and nephews including Kelly and Mark Bowen of Burlington and Shelly and Chris Jensen of Chelmsford. Family and friends will honor and remember John's life by gathering for calling hours at The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Route 20), Waltham on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services and burial will be private.
