Mr. John S. Brady, of Waltham, formerly of Newton, died Sunday, February 17, 2013 at home. He was 86.
John was born on December 26, 1926 in the Brighton Neighborhood of Boston where he was raised and educated. He honorably served his country in the United States Army in both World War II and later Korea. On October 29, 1949 he married the former Margaret King in Our Lady of the Presentation Church in Brighton. They lived many years in Newton before moving to Waltham in 1993.
He worked as a custodian in the Newton Public Schools primarily in the Lincoln-Eliot School, retiring in 1995.
John loved music, especially from the Big Band Era. He was a proud veteran who enjoyed movies that documented wars and the nation's history. He was a past-commander of the Brighton V.F.W. and the National and State Korean War Veteran's Associations.
John also enjoyed gardening; time spent with his grandchildren and a nice walk with his dogs Finn and McDuff.
His brother, Robert Brady predeceases him.
He leaves his wife of 63 years, Margaret; his children, Susan A. McGrath and her husband, Don, of Millis, Jane A. Cetrone and her husband, Mickey, of Westborough, Maria Brady and Jacqueline Brady, both of Waltham and Mark S. Brady and his wife, Linda, of Gardner; his grandchildren, Justine Wirtanen, Kiersten McLean, Rory Alphas, Amanda McGrath, Brian and Gregory Cetrone, Samantha, Kyle, Dylan and Nicholas Brady; his great-grandchildren, Jake, Sarah, Arianna, Rylee, Jack, Ava, Stephen, Donald, Alexia and Maeve.
Family and friends will honor and remember John's life by gathering to visit at 9 A.M. on Tuesday morning, February 26th in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham before leaving in procession to St. Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
