Waltham – Mr. John A. Burley, of Waltham, died Friday, January 30, 2009 at Youville Hospital in Cambridge. He was 74.
Born in Newton, a son of the late James and Lillian (Fay) Burley, John had been a lifelong resident of Waltham. Until his retirement he worked as a materials manager for Raytheon Service Company in Burlington where he had worked for forty years. John was a longtime director of the RTN Credit Union in Waltham where he had served as past president and chairman.
During the Korean War he served with the United States Army and had been a member of the Joseph F. Hill American Legion Post No. 156 in Waltham. In his spare time he enjoyed playing golf, trips to Foxwoods and following the Red Sox and Patriots.
John was the beloved husband of fifty-three years of Jeanne M. (LeBlanc) Burley; the loving father of Jay Burley and his wife, Debbie, of Waltham, David M. Burley and his wife, Dee, of Milford, Dianne M. Fitzmaurice and her husband, George, of Brookline, New Hampshire and Matthew J. Burley and his wife, Wendy, of Marlboro; and the proud papa of Michael, Amanda, David, Rachel, Kevin, Jack, Bryan and Jillian. John was also a brother of Louise Quinn of Waltham and the late Thomas and James Burley and Mary Welch and leaves many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend John's Funeral at 9 a.m. Wednesday from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
