Mr. John C. Caliguri, of Somerset, formerly of Plymouth died Friday, February 16, 2018 in Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River after being stricken ill unexpectedly at home. He was 68.
Born on October 12, 1949 in Cambridge he was a son of Dora M. (Serafini) and the late Salvatore J. Caliguri Jr. He was a graduate of Watertown High School with the class of 1967 and later earned his degree in Business Management from Northeastern University and lastly a certificate from Massachusetts School for Financial Studies Massachusetts Bankers Association in Falmouth. He served in the Army Reserves. John lived over 40 years in Plymouth and moved recently to Somerset.
His professional career began in banking where he worked for Plymouth Savings Bank, Strata Bank, as a manager for Household Finance Co., and for the last ten years as Senior Vice President and Chief Lending Officer for St. Anne's Credit Union in Fall River. Well respected and liked amongst his colleagues at the credit union John was still working at the time of his death. He was Past President of New England Association of Retail Lenders, Inc. in Framingham, Past President of South Eastern Massachusetts Credit Grantors in Middleboro and taught consumer lending courses at Fairfield University.
John's interests varied but most favorite among them was the outdoors and hunting. He had a cabin he made in Charlotteville, New York and looked forward to trips there to the camp as often as time afforded him and he looked forward to an upcoming retirement where more time would be spent there. He was active in youth sports when living in Plymouth and coached both baseball and was the former director of Plymouth Little League and Plymouth Youth Baseball. He was also past president and director of the Middleboro Lions Club. An overall sports enthusiast he remained loyal to the New York Yankees. He loved to ride his Harley Davidson motorcycle.
He leaves his children, Lauren N. Hobart and her fiancé, William Burnie of Plymouth, Lynne M. O'Brian and her husband, Andrew of Long Beach, California and Derek J. Caliguri of Plymouth; his mother, Dora Caliguri of Waltham; his siblings, Salvatore J. Caliguri III and his wife, Paula of Old Lyme, Connecticut and Joanne M. Caliguri of Waltham; his grandchildren, Cody and Kailey Hobart and Quinn and Keegan O'Brian; his former wife, Jeanne M. (Dion) Caliguri of Plymouth; nieces & nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember John's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, February 22nd from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Burial will be private.
