Watertown Mr. John A. Centola, Sr. of Watertown died Wednesday, November 2, 2005 at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Bedford. He was 79. Born in Brighton, a son of the late John and Mary (Abbondanzio) Centola, he was a Watertown resident for the past fifty-four years. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1944 and served with the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during World War II. He was awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart for wounds received in action. Until his retirement in 1988 John worked for more than forty years as a mason and had been a member of Local 15 in Waltham. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He leaves his wife of 54 years, Theresa M. (Iodice) Centola, two children, John A. Centola, Jr. and Sharon A. Centola; one brother, Alfred Centola of Waltham; two sisters, Virginia Corsetti of Florida and Anna Kasprzyk of Waltham and many nieces and nephews. He was also a brother of the late Carl R. Centola and Benedict Centola. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral at 8 a.m. Saturday from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Lukes Church, 132 Lexington Street, Belmont at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Saint Patricks Cemetery, Watertown.
