Waltham – Mr. John R. 'Jack' Doyle, Jr., of Waltham, died Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. He was 85.
Jack was born in Cambridge on April 21, 1928, a son of the late John R. and Josephine M. (Vaughn) Doyle, and was raised in Arlington where he graduated from the local high school. He had been a Waltham resident for the past fifty-two years. During the Korean War he served with the United States Navy.
After getting out of the service Jack went into the gas station business in Arlington, most recently owning Doyle's Service Station, which he operated until his retirement. He was also an avid boater and fisherman. Jack was a member of the Charlesgate Yacht Club in Cambridge and also maintained a mooring in Wellfleet Harbor. Jack's family recalls with greatest affection many warm summer nights spent as youngsters boating along the Charles River with their Dad . . . sipping the ever present warm Pepsi's and eating stale Saltines . . . and creating memories that would last a lifetime.
Jack's wife of fifty-six years, Maureen H. (Brady) Doyle, died September 14, 2012.
He leaves his children, John R. 'Jackie' Doyle, III and his wife, Mary, of Arlington, Brian A. Doyle and his wife, Cecilia, of Milford, James J. Doyle and his wife, Janice, Thomas Doyle, all of Waltham and Kathleen Doyle of Eastham; his grandchildren, Jennifer L., John R., IV, Matthew R., Nicholas B. and Timothy J. Doyle; his brother, Leonard F. Doyle and his wife, Marge, of Lexington and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Jack's life by gathering for his Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2013 in Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham.
