Boston - Mr. John E. 'Jake' Driscoll's amazing run finally came to an end on Saturday, August 3rd, 2013 in the Sherrill House, Boston. He was 89.
Jake was born in Waltham on November 26, 1923, a son of the late John and Irene (Brown) Driscoll. Shortly after graduating from high school he joined the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a life-long Waltham resident until his later years.
Jake was a successful businessman and began his career working at Newton Sash and Door and later started his own company, Acme Door and Window. He then moved on to the Metropolitan District Commission and worked as a greens keeper at Leo J. Martin Golf Course in Weston and after retirement continued to work part-time at Pine Brook Country Club also in Weston. Golf was Jake's passion and he could often be seen roaming the course with cigar in hand.
He leaves his children, John Driscoll and his wife, Janet, of Waltham, Kathleen Curtin and her husband, Ken, of Hopedale and Timothy Driscoll and his wife, Christine, of Ipswich; his sister-in-law Virginia Driscoll of West Concord and is also survived by ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was the former husband of the late Elizabeth A. (Clancy) Driscoll Perkins and brother of the late Robert Driscoll.
Family and friends will honor and remember Jake's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, August 8th from 4 to 8 p.m. followed by his Funeral Service at 8 p.m. Burial will be private.
