John Gildart

July 9, 1943 — August 15, 2016

Waltham - Mr. John H. 'Jack' Gildart, of Waltham, formerly of Cambridge, Somerville and Gilford, New Hampshire, died Monday, August 15, 2016 in Newton Wellesley Hospital. He was 73.

John was born July 9, 1943 in Cambridge a son of the late Harold and Helen (Ready) Gildart. Raised and educated in Cambridge he graduated from Cambridge Rindge Technical High School. He served the the United States Army National Guard.

Jack worked as welder for Consolidated Stills & Sterilizers in Brighton before retiring.

He enjoyed boating on Lake Winnipesaukee where he maintained a home in Gilford, New Hampshire for over 30 years. He loved all things outdoors including boating, ice-fishing, playing darts and played drums and guitar in a band in his earlier years. Jack enjoyed his friendships in the Notre Dame Association French Club in Cambridge.

In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his only sibling, Barbara Gildart Farrell.

He leaves his former wife, Debra Gildart MacDonald and her husband, Randall MacDonald of Winthrop; several cousins including Pat Johnson; eight nieces & nephews and many friends from the Notre Dame Association French Club in Cambridge.

Family and friends will honor and remember Jack's life by gathering on Saturday, August 20th in The Newton Cemetery Chapel, 791 Walnut Street, Newton. where his funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in Newton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials in his name may be made to Notre Dame Association French Club, 2322 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge, MA 02140.
