Foxborough – Mr. John Leo Grady, Jr., of Foxborough, died Sunday, September 6, 2015 at the Tippet Home in Needham. He was 66.
John was born in Brookline on November 2, 1948, the son of the late John Leo, Sr. and Catherine F. (Reilly) Grady, and was raised in Watertown. In 1966 he graduated from Saint Patrick's High School in Watertown and after that served with the Massachusetts Army National Guard.
He went to Benjamin Franklin Institute before enrolling at Northeastern University in Boston where he earned a degree in civil engineering. He later received a master's degree in the same discipline from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. John worked as a civil engineer with the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development, happiest when out working in the field.
John had served on the board of directors of the Massachusetts Organization of State Engineers and Scientists. His interests were varied . . . he was an avid reader, especially of science fiction; he was a season ticket holder for the Patriots and the Revolution; loved playing the guitar and was a model train and railroad enthusiast.
He leaves his wife, Maureen A. (Smith); his children, Melissa, Timothy and Paula; his step-children, Barbara Cullen Pasti and her husband, George, Chris Cullen and his wife, Betsy, and John Cullen; his sisters, Catherine Giampa and her husband, Joel, and Linda Grady; his grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember John's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, September 10th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
