John P. Hennessey

Mr. John P. "Mr. Bones" Hennessey, of Cambridge, formerly of Waltham and Hyannis, died Sunday, April 6, 2008 at Cambridge Hospital. He was 88. Born in Wakefield a son of the late John and Catherine (Navin) Hennessey, John was raised in Cambridge and in Watertown. He had lived for many years in Waltham and in Hyannis before moving to Cambridge five years ago. He worked for many years as the manager of City Hall Liquors in Waltham and at Mannix Liquors in Cambridge. He will be missed on Monday nights at the Green Briar in Brighton where he was an integral part of the band in the Irish Sessions. He will be remembered for his unusual legacy as master of the Irish wooden spoons, or "bones" as commonly known at the Irish Sessions. He was a member of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Eireann. The husband of the late Teresa (Carney) Hennessey, he leaves his children, Brian Hennessey of Reno, Nevada, Moira Guigno and her husband, Michael, of Framingham, Sheila Pallis and her husband, Mark, of West Yarmouth, Kevin Hennessey and his wife, Marie, of Haverhill, Sean Hennessey of Boston, Eileen Collett and her husband, William, of Natick and Erin Collings and her husband, David, of Waltham. John will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Andrew and Kelly Guigno, Jennifer and Nicholas Hennessey, Kevin, Kyle and Talia Collett, Lindsay, Juliet and Jesse Collings. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass for John that will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 9, in Saint Patrick's Church, 212 Main Street (Rte. 20), Watertown. Burial will be private. Visiting hours are omitted. Memorial donations may be made to Neville Place of Cambridge, 650 Concord Avenue, Cambridge, MA 02138.
