John E. Link

Waltham - Mr. John E. Link, Of Waltham, died at home on Wednesday, September 2, 2015. He was 91.

John was born on July 20, 1924 in the Allston neighborhood of Boston, a son of the late Andrew and Viola (Kurkjian) Link. He graduated from Brighton High School and after that joined the United States Army where he served in a combat engineer battalion in Europe for the duration of World War II.

Following a three year courtship he married his sweetheart, Roxbury native Catherine C. Noble, on October 28, 1950 in Saint Francis deSales Church. The couple lived in Brighton before moving to Waltham in 1957 where they became lifelong residents.

Until his retirement John worked as a draftsman for thirty-eight years for the Raytheon Company at their Waltham and Bedford plants.

John and Catherine were active parishioners at Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church in Waltham. John was a member and past master of the Boston Grange and had long been active with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He was a Scout Master in Brighton and a Cub Master for his boys at Troop 244 in Waltham. He and his family also created many happy memories during visits to West Yarmouth on the Cape.

In addition to his wife of 65 years, Catherine, he leaves his sons, John A. Link of New York City and Daniel T. Link of Marlborough; his daughter-in-law, Susan Stafford Link; his grandchildren, Julie Wayman, Stacey and Jeffrey Link; his sister, Violet Rowe of St. Petersburg, Florida and many nieces and nephews.

John was also the brother of the late Andrew W. Link.

Family and friends will honor and remember John's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, September 7th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph's Cemetery, West Roxbury.
