Clinton – Mr. John A. MacNeill, of Clinton, died Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Clinton Hospital. He was 76.
John was born in Waltham on December 9, 1940 to the late Winfield and Margaret H. (Walsh) MacNeill. He was raised in Waltham and was a graduate of Waltham High School. Until his retirement he worked as a foreman for Boston Scientific in Watertown and before that held the same position with the W.H. Nichols Company in Waltham.
He would tell you that his best day came on September 9, 1964 when he married Cambridge native Pauline A. Kavolis in Immaculate Conception Church in Cambridge. Clinton residents for the past four years they had previously lived in Summerfield, Florida, in Marstons Mills and Mashpee on the Cape, Waltham and in Hudson.
In retirement John enjoyed playing golf whenever the opportunity arose and was proud of having achieved a hole-in-one at a course in Florida. A skilled craftsman all his life, John had the know-how and the tools to create all sorts of projects for family and friends.
In addition to his wife of fifty-three years, Pauline, he leaves his children, Suzanne M. Forbes and her husband, Peter, of Waltham and John A. MacNeill, Jr. and his wife, Rebecca, of Acton; his grandchildren who affectionately called him "Grampa", Peter A., Julia E., Mary C. and Lauren A. Forbes and Elsa K. and Alex W. MacNeill; his siblings, Robert MacNeill of Brockton, Jean Jones of Weston, Arleen Brennan of Poland Spring, Maine and David MacNeill of The Villages, Florida and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember John's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, March 16th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Saint Patrick's Cemetery, Watertown.
