At the outbreak of World War II Jack left college and joined the United States Navy where he served as a radar operator aboard the battleship U.S.S. New York. After the war Jack returned to Marietta where he earned his degree. He became a civil engineer for the Massachusetts Department of Public Works, a position he held until his retirement. He had been a Belmont resident for forty years before recently moving to Watertown.

He was the brother of the late James Maguire and brother-in-law of the late Andrew Goode.

Family and friends will honor and remember Jack's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, December 26th from 2 to 4 p.m. and again on Thursday afternoon in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne where committal services will be held at 12:45 p.m.
