Truth or Consequences, New Mexico - Mr. John Thomas Malloy, 73, of Truth or Consequences, formerly of Somerville and Cummington, Massachusetts passed away in Las Cruces, New Mexico on Thursday, June 20, 2013.
The son of the late John Joseph and Pearl Neilson Malloy, he was born on April 21, 1940 in Framingham.
John was a proud United States Marine. Each year in November he celebrated the Marine Corps birthday which was a time of revelry and reflection.
In addition, he was an avid seeker of knowledge. He studied at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst and read voraciously to learn more and more every day. He was also a teacher having shared his love of language, literature and learning with others. Always interested in gemology, John created and collected unique art and jewelry which he shared with family and friends.
He had a large circle of friends from his time growing up in Somerville, his time in Amherst, and as a bar owner in Greenfield. He made friends wherever he went and was considered quite a character by those who knew him. He was always willing to help out others even if that meant he would do without.
He is survived by his devoted brother, Richard J. Malloy of Somerville and six sisters, Marie A. Tuccero of Norwood, Katherine A. Jones of Lynchburg, VA, Jeanette C. Gabriel of Malden, Theresa J. Moakley of Wilmington, Rita J. Moakley of Windham, NH, and Sheila S. (Sandra) Hilton of North Reading. In addition he was also able to share is love and knowledge with many nieces and nephews as well as a large extended family.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Paul Joseph Malloy and his sisters, Elizabeth N. Smith, Patricia Pearl Malloy, Elaine M. Tosi and Ruth Ann Medeiros.
Family and friends will honor and remember John's life by gathering for his graveside service on Monday, July 29th, at 11 a.m. in Calvary Cemetery, 250 High Street, Waltham.
