Waltham – Mr. John J. ‘Jack’ Pendergast, Jr. of Waltham died Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at Lasell House in Newton. He was 83.
Born in Waltham, a son of the late John J., Sr. and Mary E. (Hurley) Pendergast, he attended local schools and had been a lifelong resident. Until his retirement in 1992, Jack had been the Chairman of the Board of Assessors for the City of Waltham.
During World War II he served with the United States Army Air Corps and was recalled during the Korean War for service with the United States Air Force. He was very active at Saint Jude’s Church in Waltham where he had been a member of the Holy Name Society, Bowling League and Couples Club and served as an usher for more than fifty years.
He leaves his wife of 58 years, Geraldine M. (Melanson) Pendergast; his children, John W. ‘Jack’ Pendergast and his wife, Patricia A. of Waltham and Patricia A. Faulkner and her husband, Robert F. of Dillsburg, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren, Brian and Alicia Pendergast and Sean and Kevin Faulkner; three brothers, Matthew Pendergast of Marlboro, James Pendergast of Maine and Richard Pendergast of Billerica; two sisters, Dorothy Aborn of Waltham and Mary Keyes of Needham and many nieces and nephews.
He was also a brother of the late William Pendergast and Daniel Pendergast.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral at 9 a.m. Saturday from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
Visiting hours are Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.
