Waltham – Mr. John S. Romeo, of Waltham, died Saturday, August 6, 2011 at The Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. He was 60.
John was born in Waltham on January 9, 1951, the only child of the late Blaze and Pauline (Wagner) Romeo and had been a lifelong resident. He was a 1969 graduate of Waltham High School where he excelled in all varsity sports. He then attended Northeastern University while working as a carpenter.
In his earlier days John enjoyed bowling at The Wal-Lex Recreation Center and was chosen as an original cast member for Waltham’s Reagle Players.
John started his career with Perini Corporation then moved on as Director of Capital Construction at Boston College. He was devoted to and was actively involved with the B.C. community for over 30 years.
An avid and devout New England sports fan John took pride in having attended the last 24 opening day games at Fenway Park with his beloved “brothers” to cheer on the Red Sox. John also loved Boston College athletics and was a season ticket holder for football and basketball games.
He was a devoted, loyal and hard-working employee who put in many long hours during the work week. On weekends he enjoyed playing golf and spending time at his home in Falmouth and on his boat “Seas the Day”. He is remembered for being most happy amidst his family and friends, and the Eastern & Western Geppners. He lived well and loved life.
He leaves his soul mate & wife of 12 years, Jeannette M. (Richard) Romeo; his daughter, Jennifer S. Romeo and her fiancé, Charlie Medeiros, of Burlington; his extended family of in-laws, Raymond T. and Concetta (LaCava) Richard of Waltham, Raymond T. ‘Butch’ Richard and his wife, Ellen, of Gardner, Mary Rose Cannistraro and her husband, Bob, of St. Mary’s, Georgia and Mark S. Richard of Waltham; many cousins, nieces and nephews; a host of friends and colleagues in the Boston College community and his other extended family members, The Geppners.
Family and friends will honor and remember John’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, August 9th, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Ignatius of Loyola Church, 28 Commonwealth Avenue, Chestnut Hill, where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial at a later date will be private.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in loving memory of John Romeo may be directed to support melanoma research under the direction of Dr. Donald Lawrence at the Mass. General Cancer Center.
