Waltham - Mr. John F. Scanlon, Jr. of Waltham died Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at Meadowgreen Nursing Home, Waltham. He was 96. A lifelong resident of Waltham, he was the son of the late John and Catherine (Skahill) Scanlon. Until his retirement in 1973 he worked for the Raytheon Corporation in Waltham for more than thirty years. He was very active at Saint Jude Church in Waltham serving as an usher for many years and as a member of the parish Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. John was the husband of the late Ida M. (OConnor) Scanlon and brother of the late Joseph Scanlon, Mary Scanlon, and Agnes Madden. He is survived by one daughter, Ellen C. Bardsley and her husband Walter of Waltham; one son, John F. Scanlon, III and his wife Deborah of North Falmouth; one sister, Margaret Hallstead of Waltham; his grandchildren, Sarah Bardsley, Erick Bardsley and his wife, Melissa, Craig Bardsley, John Scanlon IV, and Martha Scanlon; one great-grandson, Jake Bardsley and many nieces and nephews. The Funeral will be held Friday at 9 a.m. from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street Waltham at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham. Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
