Waltham – Mr. John F. Sloane, of Waltham, died Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Maristhill Nursing Home in Waltham. He was 96.
John was born in Waltham on January 11, 1919, the only child of the late John F. and Eleanor (Horne) Sloane. He was a graduate of Waltham High School and for years he ran his family's rooming house on Walnut Street while caring for his aging parents.
Best known for his musical talent, John had been the longtime organist at Saint Mary's Church, and later, Saint Charles Borromeo Church both in Waltham. He belonged to the Waltham Musical Club and as a member of the Waltham Stamp Club kept an extensive stamp collection.
He leaves several cousins and his longtime caregivers, the Colvin family, of Waltham.
Family and friends will honor and remember John's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, November 27th from 2 to 4 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to the Blessed Sacrament Chapel of Saint Charles Borromeo Church, 51 Hall Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
