Mr. John V. ‘Jack’ White, of South Weymouth, died Sunday, March 16, 2025, in Massachusetts General Hospital after being stricken ill at home. He was 88.
Jack was born November 13, 1936, in Boston a son of the late James and Catherine (MacDonald) White. Raised in Dorchester he graduated from Dorchester High School. At age 17 he enlisted and served honorably in the United Stated Navy. He then earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Northeastern University. He lived many years in Westwood before moving to South Weymouth over twenty-five years ago.
Jack’s professional career began in the insurance industry before he transitioned and enjoyed a successful career in real estate in various capacities on the south shore.
Social by nature he maintained constant contact with his circle of friends. He had a great voice and loved singing along to the oldies. He kept active reading with books and newspapers, bowling and bird watching. He was happiest watching the countless sunsets in Naples, Florida where he wintered for years.
His family offers words of thanks to Dr. Charles Boucher at Massachusetts General Hospital and his cardiology team for the wonderful care extended to Jack. Also, a word of thanks to ‘Chuck’ from the veteran's care support network.
He leaves his wife, Joanne E. (Fahey) White; his children John V. ‘Jack’ White Jr of Hull, Wendy Spinney and Carolyn Fahey; his stepson, A.J. Figliolini (Satoko) of Seattle, Washington; his grandchildren, Morgan and Rachel, Amanda and Sachi; in-laws, Geraldine Chiasson (Leo 'Bud') of Waltham, Elaine O’Reilly (Ken) of Millis and John ‘Jack’ Fahey (Maureen) of Marlborough; Jack was predeceased by his siblings, James White and Barbara McHugh; also survived by nieces & nephews.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Jack’s life on Saturday, March 29th in Saint Francis Xavier Church, 234 Pleasant Street, Weymouth where his funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. A reception will follow Mass at Stockholder’s Steakhouse, 1730 Main Street, S. Weymouth.
Burial with military honors will be held Monday, March 31st in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 12:45 p.m.
