John J. L. 'Wink' Wenckus

March 10, 1932 — September 7, 2004

Mr. John J. L. ‘Wink’ Wenckus of Waltham died Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He was 72.

Born in Boston, a son of the late John and Claire (Vienneau) Wenckus, he lived in Waltham for most of his life. He graduated from Waltham High School in 1949 and during the Korean War he served with the U.S. Army. Until his retirement he worked as a supervisor for the New England Telephone Company and later at Nynex. In retirement he became an avid golfer.

Mr. Wenckus was the devoted husband of Joan E. (Besso) Wenckus with whom he would have celebrated 50 years of marriage on September 11th. He also leaves his children, Carol A. Murphy and her husband Richard, Brian P. Wenckus, Lynne M. Patten and her husband Richard, all of Waltham, Lisa J. Mahoney and her husband Terrance of Framingham and Daniel P. Wenckus and his wife Kathleen of Natick; 10 grandchildren, Brian and Jennifer Wenckus, Melanie Hamill, Richard, Jennifer, Kristen and Shawn Patten, James Boudreau, Connor and Matthew Maloney; 3 brothers, Alfred Wenckus of Newton, Ernest Wenckus of New Hampshire and Charles Wenckus of Arkansas; one sister, Marie Marshall of Nova Scotia and many nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late John J. Wenckus.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral at 9 a.m. Saturday from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Mary’s Church, 133 School Street, Waltham at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.

Visiting hours are Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.
