Mr. Jon F. Hayes, of Woburn, formerly of Waltham, died Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Care One in Newton. He was 65.
Born on June 4, 1953 in Waltham he was a son of the late Franklin and Mary (McCarthy) Hayes. He was a graduate of Waltham High School with the class of 1971. A lifelong Waltham resident he moved to Woburn three years ago.
Through the Edinburg Center Jon participated in various day programs and was a much loved member of its community. An avid New England sports fan he followed the Red Sox, Bruins, Patriots and Celtics religiously. He will also be remembered for his love of dancing and a successful win at bingo.
He is predeceased by his wife, Rose, his brother, Carl J. Hayes and niece, Rachel Fonstein.
Jon leaves his sister, Karen M. Fonstein (Stephen) of Woburn and brother, Eric E. Hayes of Waltham; three nephews Jared Fonstein (Susan), Matthew Fonstein (Adriann) and Keith Fonstein; great-nieces and nephews Raychel, Nash, Gianna, Emma and Dylan; aunts and uncles, Janet & Bob Var of Waltham, Eleanor and John Var of Roseville, California and Robert and Kathy Hayes of San Francisco, California; also survived by many cousins, friends and the staff of Edinburg Center.
Family and friends will honor and remember Jon's life by gathering for a calling hour in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, April 29th from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be private.
