Newton – Mr. Joseph V. Anastasi, of Newton Centre, died Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at his home. He was 89.
Joe was born in Watertown on April 21, 1927, a son of the late Francesco and Concetta Anastasi. He was a 1945 graduate of Watertown High School and was a graduate of Bentley School of Accounting in Boston. Until his retirement he worked as an accountant for BF Goodrich and at Merchant's Tire and Auto Center.
In 1959 he moved to Waltham where along with his late wife, Helene P. (Paresky) Anastasi, they raised their family. Joe was a lifelong Red Sox fan and was a talented lefty candlepin bowler at the Riverside Lanes in Watertown.
Following his 2004 marriage to Patricia M. (Black) Acton he moved to Newton where he became a member of Sacred Heart Parish. He was also a member and a past exalted ruler of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge No. 1327 in Newton.
In addition to his wife, Pat, he leaves his children, Nancy Coleman and her husband, John, of Scarborough, Maine and Judith Harvin and her husband, John, of Weaverville, North Carolina and his granddaughter, Maggie Harvin of Asheville, North Carolina. Joe also leaves Pat's children, James Acton, Jr. and his wife, Maureen, of Natick, Dennis Acton and his wife, Karen, of Fremont, New Hampshire and Stephen Acton of West Hartford, Connecticut and his step-grandchildren, Colin, Brendan, Luke, Brianna and Maya Acton.
He was also the brother of the late Anthony Anastasi.
Family and friends will honor and remember Joe's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, July 10th from 3 to 7 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 1321 Centre Street, Newton where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
