Mr. Joseph T. Arcuri, of Waban, died on March 14, 2014 peacefully in his home surrounded by family. He was 83. Joe was born in Newton on June 23, 1930, eldest son of the late Vincent and Pasquelina (Fragale) Arcuri.
From a young age, Joe had a strong sense of family responsibility, he was known to be strong and reliable, and during difficult times always made keeping the family together a priority. Shortly after graduating from Newton Trade School he purchased the home his family lived in. He founded Newtron, Inc., in 1957 where for over fifty years they have manufactured precision radar, microwave, and waveguide components and helped put the first American on the moon! They also manufctured parts for the LRV, the means of transport while on the lunar surface. He enjoyed time on the golf course, fishing with his kids and exploring the backroads of Plymouth. Later in life, he invented and patented EasyPutt!!!, a Putting aid to help golfers improve their game. He enjoyed working with his hands and was skilled at most all he endeavored to do whether it be painting, woodworking, electical, gardening or what have you. Joe enjoyed spending time between his homes in Newton, at Priscilla Beach in Plymouth and Edna's Kaban in St. Petersburg, Florida. He was a senior member of Woodland Golf Club in Newton.
The beloved husband of the late Edna M. (Gallant) Arcuri, Joe is survived by his children, James A. Arcuri and his fiancé, Eileen A. Sutherland of Newton, Tracy A. Jaques and her husband, Allen N. of Medfield, Attorney Tammy L. Arcuri of Newton, Jeffrey T. Arcuri and his wife, Tiziana of Newton and Terri M. Romanelli and her husband, Joseph of Newton; his grandchildren, Taylor and Joseph Arcuri, Kenneth, Brian and Rebecca Jaques, and Gianna and Vincent Romanelli; his siblings, Anna Bibbo, Clara Holland, Edward Arcuri, Joanne Kennedy and Diane Lombardo, and his special cousin Clem Montesanti . Joe is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and in-laws as well as many good friends, young and old, whose lives he changed by example and encouragement. He was admired by all as a strong and reliable voice of reason. He was also the brother of the late Rose Caterino.
Family and friends will honor and remember Joe's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham on Tuesday March 18th, from 3 to 8 p.m. and again at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Bernard's Catholic Church, 1523 Washington Street, West Newton where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Waltham.
