Lowell - Mr. Joseph J. 'Jay' Arena of Lowell, formerly of Waltham, died Sunday, April 20, 2008 in Saints Medical Center in Lowell. He was 49. Born in Methuen, Jay had lived in Andover and Waltham for most of his life before moving to Lowell five years ago. Jay was a graduate of the Cambridge School in Weston and Waltham High School. He was a contractor as well as an accomplished artist and musician. He is survived by his wife, Christine M. (Norton) Arena; his daughter, Aprille Bachman of Washington D.C.; his parents Salvatore C. and Catherine A. (Leavitt) Arena of Waltham; his sisters, Cecilia Fournier of Burlington, Susan Arena of Jupiter, Florida, and Mary-Jo Brady of Laconia, New Hampshire; his step-son, Ian Flynn of Tewksbury, and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Saturday at 8 a.m. from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham at 9 a.m. Burial will be private. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.
