Waltham – Mr. Joseph G. ‘Jerry’ Aucoin, of Waltham, died Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He was 84.
Jerry was born in Waltham on May 29, 1926, a son of the late Patrick and Mary Ann (Boudreau) Aucoin, and had been a lifelong resident. During World War II he served with the United States Army Air Corps.
Until his retirement Jerry worked as a carpenter for thirty-six years at the Raytheon plant in Waltham. He and his wife would spend their summer weekends in Wells, Maine where they would enjoy the beach and going to The Weathervane for dinner. In the off-season they would head to Hyannis. Jerry also loved working in his vegetable and flower gardens. After his retirement Jerry drove a school bus for several years. He was a member at the Leo J. Martin Golf Course in Newton where he would meet ‘the guys’ every morning for a round of golf. He would head over to the Y for a swim in the pool before he headed back to his bus for the afternoon pick-up.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Eleanor E. (Vinciulla) Aucoin; his children, Gerard Aucoin and his wife, Betty, of Natick, David Aucoin and his wife, Maryjean, of Methuen, Karen Platteborze and her husband, Curt, Mary Ann Rose, Sandra McMahon and her husband, Kevin, all of Waltham and Nancy Aucoin of Marlborough; his grandchildren, Jared, Meredith and Kerrin Aucoin, Jeannine Patturelli, Stephanie Ruggiero, Elise Ludgin, Paul and Melissa Bohannon, Michael and Nicole McMahon, Jillian Aucoin, Kristen Morris and Joey and Mathew Rose; his great-grandchilden, Olivia and Elaina Patturelli, Noah and Molly Ruggiero and Mila Aucoin; his sisters, Bernice Glenfield and Beatrice Toohey, both of Hampton, New Hampshire and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Albert Aucoin and Claire Cypers.
Family and friends will honor and remember Jerry’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, May 30th, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 11 a.m. on Tuesday morning when his funeral service will be held. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
