Nashua, NH – Mr. Joseph Bicchieri, of Nashua, died Tuesday, July 19, 2011, in the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, New Hampshire after a period of declining health. He was 91.
Joe was born in Waltham on March 10, 1920, a son of the late Nunzio and Antonetta (Gonnelli) Bicchieri. He enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II and served aboard the USS Crowley as a Machinist’s Mate, First Class. In 1947, he married his wife, Dorothy Ann (Webster) Bicchieri. They moved to Wayland in 1952 where they raised their family. In 1986 Joe and Dorothy moved to West Yarmouth and to Nashua in 2001. They were married for 62 years until Dorothy’s death in 2009.
Until his retirement Joe worked as a maintenance manager for more than forty years at the Itek Corporation in Lexington. He was an avid gardener and a fan of auto racing. He enjoyed square dancing, bowling, and watching hockey and football. Joe will especially be remembered for his love of telling jokes and making others laugh.
He is survived by his children, David J. Bicchieri of Nashua, New Hampshire and Janice L. Nagle and her husband, Rick, of Chelmsford; his grandchildren, Joseph Bicchieri, Melissa Ianconne, Johanna Nagle and Christina Nagle; his great-grandchildren, Enzo and Angelo Ianconne; his siblings, Ann Schandelmayer, Elenor Brennan, Emma LaBelle, Josephine Carlson, Elsie Beausoleil, Louise Ferla, and Ralph Bicchieri and many nieces and nephews.
Joe was also a brother of the late Tony Bicchieri, Anna Chisholm, Frank Bicchieri, Lee Nee, Mary Gullotti and John Bicchieri.
Family and friends will honor and remember Joe’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, July 21st, from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary’s Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
