Waltham – Mr. Joseph A. Campbell, Jr., of Waltham, died Friday, May 6, 2011 at Maristhill Nursing Home in Waltham. He was 91.
Joe was born in Newton on May 26, 1919, a son of the late Joseph A. and Eva (Tyrrell) Campbell. He was raised in Newton and was a graduate of Newton High School and Bentley College. He moved to Waltham in 1950 and had been a parishioner at Saint Mary’s Church in Waltham for the past sixty-one years.
During World War II he served in Europe as a staff sergeant with the United States Army Air Corps. After the war he went to work for more than thirty years as the controller for the Peter Gray Corporation in Cambridge.
The husband of the late Agnes (Robertson) Campbell, he leaves his son, Thomas J. Campbell of Chicago, Illinois; his sisters, Joan Cannon of Franklin, Marie Herendeen of Falmouth and Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Molloy of Atlanta, Georgia and many nieces and nephews.
Joe was also the father-in-law of the late Sally (Walsh) Campbell; grandfather of the late Sarah A. Campbell and a brother of the late Paul Campbell and Sr. Anne Therese Campbell.
Family and friends will honor and remember Joe’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, May 9th, from 5 to 8 p.m. and again at 8 a.m. on Tuesday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary’s Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
