Rev. Joseph S. Chasse, S.M., of Framingham, died on Sunday, August 20, 2017 in Saint Patrick's Manor. He was 91.
Fr. Chasse was born on July 1, 1926 in Van Buren, Maine, the son of the late Belonie and Marie (DesRosiers) Chasse. He graduated from Maryvale Seminary in Bedford in 1946 and took his First Profession on September 8, 1947 in Staten Island, New York. He then attended Marist College and Seminary in Framingham and was ordained into the priesthood on August 6, 1952 at St. Bridget's Church in Framingham. He would later earn his Master of Education from Boston University.
Among numerous assignments he taught at Catholic Central High School in Detroit, Michigan, and at Notre Dame High School in Harper Woods, Michigan. He was the Pastor at Sacred Heart Parish in Lawrence, Our Lady of Pity Parish in Cambridge and at St. Bruno-St. Remi Parish in his hometown of Van Buren, Maine. Fr. Chasse was a warm and welcoming man who counseled hundreds of parishioners throughout his vocation.
Besides his confreres in the Marist Community he is survived by his siblings, Aurelien Chasse of Houlton, Maine, Jeannine Lynch of Norwood, Leola Ouellette of Peabody, Sue Chasse of Van Buren, Maine, and Emilio Chasse of Liverpool, New York and also leaves many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Fr. Lucien Chasse, Juliette Plourde, Stella Chasse, Muriel Violette, Lourdes Chasse, Therese Smith, Zelpha Collins and Zoel Chasse.
Family and friends will honor and remember Fr. Chasse's life by gathering to visit on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at 9 a.m. in The Chapel of Saint Patrick's Manor, 863 Central St, Framingham, where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will take place in Van Buren, Maine at a later date.
