Waltham – Mr. Joseph F. Coburn, of Waltham, died Sunday, October 14, 2012 in Golden Living Center in Newton. He was 86.
Joseph was born on March 27, 1926 in Woburn, a son of the late Joseph F. and Magdeline (Lardowsky) Coburn. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy during both World War II and the Korean Conflict.
He worked in the power plant as a first class fireman at Polaroid Corporation for over 15 years, retiring in 1988. Joe loved his work at Polaroid and the people he worked with were considered friends. Previously, he worked as a maintenance mechanic at Converse Rubber Corporation in Malden for over 20 years.
Joe was a member of the Nonantum American Legion Post No. 440 in Newton. He enjoyed working around his house and was very capable and handy at the many projects he would undertake at home.
His wife, H. Marilyn (MacDougall) Coburn died October 15, 1998.
He leaves his children, Wayne A. Coburn and his wife, Mary Anne, of Woburn, Deborah L. McGaughey and her husband, James, of Ashland, Dana B. Coburn and his wife, Kathleen, of Southborough and Joseph F. Coburn III and his wife, Maura, of Holliston; his grandchildren, Meredith and Christopher Coburn, Tanya Villane and her husband, Nicholas, and Cassandra McGaughey, Jason, Derek and Kyle Coburn, Mitchell and Kayla Coburn and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Joseph's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20),Waltham on Thursday, October 18th, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 11 a.m. on Friday morning when his funeral service will be held. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery.
