Waltham - Mr. Joseph P. Cunningham, of Waltham, died Saturday, February 18, 2012 in Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He was 61.
Joe was born in Waltham on April 26, 1950, a son of the late Patrick and Helen (Furdon) Cunningham, and had been a lifelong resident. During the Vietnam War he served with the United States Marine Corps. He worked at the Waltham Supermarket for many years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus at Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church in Waltham and the Legion of Mary.
He leaves his wife of forty-one years, Barbara A. (Peluso) Cunningham; his children, Mary K. Cunningham and her husband, Marcus Bleech, of Falls Church, Virginia, Shawn P. Cunningham of Waltham and Noel A.Cunningham of Baltimore, Maryland; his grandchildren, Megan E. Cunningham and Josephine G. Bleech; his sisters, Patricia and Noreen Cunningham, both of Waltham and his brother, Paul Cunningham of Worcester.
Joe was also a brother of the late John, William, Margaret and Helen Cunningham.
Family and friends will honor and remember Joe's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, February 23rd, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
