Mr. Joseph P. Martin of Waltham died Friday October 15, 2004 in Epoch Senior Healthcare Center in Weston. He was 87. Born and raised in Waltham, a son of the late Joseph P. and Albina (Perodeau) Martin, Mr. Martin was a Research Chemist. He started working at the Waltham Watch Company in Waltham. He then worked at M.I.T. as well as the National Research Company in Cambridge for many years. Mr. Martin retired in 1983 from Factory Mutual Research Company in Norwood. He was a longtime parishioner at Saint Mary’s Church where he was a Past President of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society, as well as a member of the Holy Name Society, the Perpetual Adoration Society, the Parish Council, the Legion of Mary and a CCD teacher for many years. He was also a member of the American Chemical Society. Mr. Martin graduated from Saint Mary’s High School and from Boston College Class of 1939. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Elizabeth M. (Gibson) Martin; his children Thomas C. Martin of Waltham, Mary E. Benner and her husband Douglas of Maine, Ann M. Zocchi and her husband Anthony of Florida and Elizabeth J. Dunlop and her husband Donald of New Hampshire; one sister Marie Ryan and her husband Paul of Waltham; six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The Funeral will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Mary’s Church, 133 School Street Waltham at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham. Visiting hours Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Memorial donation’s may be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, 133 School Street, Walham, Ma 02453.
