Waltham – Mr. Joseph F. McCarthy, of Waltham, died Monday, May 19, 2014 at Mount Auburn Hospital, Cambridge. He was 80.
Joe was born in Boston, the youngest of six children born to the late John and Helen (Carr) McCarthy. He was raised in Charlestown and was a graduate of Cathedral High School in the city's South End.
Until his retirement Joe worked as a truck driver and was a member of Local 25 of the Teamsters Union. A number of years ago he also owned and operated a local taxi service, Golden Cab Company, in Waltham. He was a longtime member of Saint Jude Parish where he was a member of the parish Saint Vincent dePaul Society.
Joe leaves his beloved wife, Barbara A. (Cincotta) McCarthy; his children, Joseph A. McCarthy of Sudbury and Waltham Police Sergeant Stephen M. McCarthy of Medway; his daughters-in-law, Nancy McCarthy and Melissa McCarthy; his grandchildren, Jack, Liam, Megan, and Sarah McCarthy; his sister, Katherine Morrison of Medford and many nieces and nephews.
He was also a brother of the late John McCarthy, Helen Kelly, Mary Deneault, and Louise Hagerty.
Family and friends will honor and remember Joe's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, May 23rd, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham, where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
