Naples, Fla. – Mr. Joseph F. McEachern, of Naples, formerly of Waltham, died Sunday, February 23, 2014 at Physicians Regional Medical Center in Naples. He was 71.
Joe was born in Boston on April 22, 1942, a son of the late John and Lillian (Welch) McEachern. He was raised in Saugus and after high school joined the United States Navy. He spent three years aboard the USS Sandoval.
After his marriage to Watertown native Jane A. Ryan the couple lived in Watertown for a time before moving to Waltham in 1968 where they raised their family. Joe worked for almost thirty years as a manager at Auto Engineering in Lexington.
During his kids growing up years and when the grandchildren came along there's nothing he loved more than attending all of their sporting and school events. He loved to travel with Jane and looked forward to visits to the family home in North Conway, New Hampshire where they enjoyed many happy seasons on the ski slopes. In later years Joe traded the New England cold for the warmth of Naples where he enjoyed his retirement.
In addition to his wife of forty-nine years, Jane, he leaves his children, Joseph McEachern and his wife, Kathleen, of Cambridge, Shawn McEachern and his wife, Andrea, of Marblehead and Kevin McEachern and his wife, Kristen, of Bedford; his grandchildren, Lindsey, Meghan, Alison, Madelyn, Michael, Aiden, Anna, Elise and Fiona McEachern; his brothers, Jack McEachern of Tewksbury, Bob McEachern of Londonderry, New Hampshire and Barry McEachern of Billerica, many nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Maggie.
Family and friends will honor and remember Joe's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, March 5th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Story Chapel at Mount Auburn Cemetery, 580 Mount Auburn Street, Cambridge where his funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will follow.
