Waltham – Mr. Joseph P. Salvucci, of Waltham, died Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at Wilmington Healthcare Center. He was 92.
Joe was born in Waltham on October 14, 1924, a son of the late Peter and Bertha (Pazzano) Salvucci, and had been a lifelong resident. For most of his life he worked in the family construction business, Peter Salvucci and Sons in Waltham.
During World War II he served with the United States Army, arriving in France four days after the Normandy invasion in June, 1944. Joe fought in the battles that eventually led to the Allied victory in May, 1945 including Northern France, the Rhineland, the Ardennes, more infamously known as the 'Battle of the Bulge' and in Central Europe. He was discharged from the Army shortly after Christmas, 1945.
Throughout his life he enjoyed sailing and over the years took on the restoration of sailboats as a favorite hobby.
Joe's beloved wife of fifty-nine years, Jean C. (Sullivan) Salvucci, died September 18, 2009.
He leaves his children, Peter E. Salvucci and his wife, Susan, of Milford and Carolyn J. Salvucci of Wrentham; his sister, Bertha Kelly of Mattapoisett; his grandchildren, Lauren Dwyer and her husband, Wesley, of Falmouth, Matthew Salvucci and his wife, Taylor, of Somersworth, New Hampshire and Scott Salvucci and his fiance, Cara, of Medway; his great-grandchildren, Ava, Megan, Alice and Lincoln and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the father of the late Joseph P. Salvucci, Jr. and a brother of the late Francis, Peter and Ralph Salvucci.
Family and friends will honor and remember Joe's life by gathering to visit from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, October 22nd in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
