Waltham- Mr. Joseph L. Sullivan, Jr. of Waltham died Sunday April 18, 2010 at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Needham. He was 80.
Joe was born November 12, 1929 in Cambridge, a son of the late Joseph L. and Mary A. (Newman) Sullivan. He had lived in Waltham for the past 54 years. He was a heavy equipment operator working for many years for the James W. Flett Company until his retirement in 2003 and was also a fifty year member with the International Union of Operating Engineers. In his spare time Joe enjoyed gardening, fishing and travelling. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
He leaves his wife, Jean M. (Isaac) Sullivan; his children, Mary Jean Sullivan of St. Augustine, Florida, Donna M. Kennelly and her husband, John, of Hopedale, and Maureen L. Sullivan of Waltham; his grandchildren, MatthewJ. and Meghan K. Kennelly; his sister’s Barbara A. Sullivan of Lexington, Teresa M. Sullivan of Cambridge and many nieces and nephews.
Joe was the father of the late Michael J. Sullivan and brother of the late Mary E. Nesbeda and Anne M. Sullivan.
Family and friends will honor and remember Joe’s life by gathering for calling hours at The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Newton Cemetery.
