Waltham – Mr. Joseph P. Welsch, of Waltham, died Friday, November 3, 2017 at his home. He was 87.
Joe was born in Arlington on October 8, 1930, a son of the late August Joseph and Ann (Lee) Welsch, and moved with his family to Watertown where he graduated from high school.
After that he enlisted with the United States Coast Guard and served during the Koran War. Joe graduated from the Coast Guard's Electronics Technician School in Groton, Connecticut and after he got out of the service put his training to work as an electronics engineer for the MITRE Corporation in Bedford. He also spent time working at the ATV Repair Shop in Waltham's Banks Square.
In 1958 he married Lorraine S. Aucoin in Saint Jude Church in Waltham and in 1961 the couple moved to Waltham where they became lifelong residents of Saint Mary's Parish. Joe was a longtime usher at Sunday Mass.
In addition to his wife of fifty-nine years, Lorraine, he leaves his children, Joseph M. Welsch and his wife, Irene, of Sudbury and Ann T. McKay and her husband, Peter, of Medfield; his grandchildren, Lexi and Christina Welsch and Erin, Connor and Avery McKay and many nieces and nephews.
Joe was also the brother of the late Mary Hansen and Bernice Montgomery.
Family and friends will honor and remember Joe's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, November 10th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
