Josephine M. (Serval) MacDowell

Waltham – Mrs. Josephine M. (Serval) MacDowell, of Waltham, died Sunday, December 9, 2018 at Maristhill Nursing Home, Waltham. She was 94.

Josephine was born in Waltham on November 24, 1924, a daughter of the late Joseph and Sophie (Vitcoski) Serval, and had been a lifelong resident. She was a graduate of Waltham High School and attended Boston University.

She also graduated from Academy Moderne, a Boston fashion and modeling school, and for years worked in the cosmetics department at Grover Cronin's on Moody Street.

Her husband of sixty-two years, Roy Scofield MacDowell, Sr. died September 9, 2010.

She leaves her children, Roy S. MacDowell, Jr. (Virginia) of Wayland, Lance S. MacDowell (Sandra) of Waltham, Bruce S. MacDowell (Lynne) of Lincoln, Brian S. MacDowell (Ellen) of Marlboro and Scott S. MacDowell (Jeannine) of Northport, Florida; her brother, Stanley Serval of Waltham; twelve grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Josephine was also the sister of the late Joseph Serval.

Family and friends will honor and remember Josephine's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, December 11th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
