West Newton - Miss Josephine L. "Jo" Sbardelli, of West Newton, died peacefully in her home on Monday, September 8, 2014. She was 94.
Jo was born in Newton on October 5, 1919, a daughter of the late Sossio and Rosina (Patuto) Sbardelli. She grew up on Adams Avenue in Newton and attended Our Lady's School. In 1938 she graduated from Newton High School. Jo's first job was as a secretary for the Raytheon Company in Waltham. Later, she proudly went on to work in Boston for thirty years as a legal secretary for Mr. Samuel Silverman, a pharmaceutical attorney.
Throughout her life, Josephine loved traveling with her sisters, Louise and Mary especially to Bermuda, Las Vegas and Hawaii. She also enjoyed her involvement with the Newton Senior Center with their many different activities and bus road trips. She was sweet, witty and always had a smile on.
She was the sister of the late Pat Sbardelli, John Sbardelli, Mary Sbardelli and Louise Lepordo.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Susan Rudek, Peter Sbardelli, Paul Sbardelli, Brian Sbardelli, Patrice Kessler, Rose Ng, Mary Parker and John Sbardelli.
She was also the aunt of the late Linda Lepordo.
Family and friends will honor and remember Jo's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, September 10th, from 5 to 8 p.m. and again on Thursday morning when her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
