Waltham - Mrs. Juana (Yanez) Massari, of Waltham, died Tuesday, September 20, 2016 in Wingate of Weston. She was 98.
Born on April 21, 1918 in Santiago, Chile she was one of twelve children born to the late Jose Emilio and Maria Del Rosario (Diaz) Yanez. She immigrated to Argentina as an infant where she was raised and educated before moving to the United States in 1969 settling in West Newton and later Waltham.
Juana was a talented knitter and knit many blankets and booties for virtually everyone in her life and beyond. Following the earthquake in Chile she religiously knit hats to be shipped home for the needy. Another curious interest of hers was reading medical journals and Juana kept actively physically most of her life.
She is predeceased by her husband, Pedro Massari and her daughter, Josefa Rodriguez who died August 28, 2008.
She leaves four grandchildren including Mirta Cuna and her fiancé, Arnold Cyr of Waltham and Oscar Rodriguez and his wife, Diana of Billerica; her son, Carmelo Massari of Buenos Aires, Argentina; her son-in-law, Ulises Rodriguez of Waltham; nine great-grandchildren including, Christopher Cuna, Victoria, Alexandra, Anthony and Thomas Rodriguez; nieces & nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Juana's life by gathering on Monday, September 26th in Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham. There are no calling hours.
